Dežru Spec-S Coilovers – Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA / NB)

The Dežru Spec-S coilover system for the 1990–2005 Mazda MX-5 Miata was engineered specifically around the realities of a lightweight, short-wheelbase sports car that depends heavily on suspension quality to feel balanced and confidence inspiring. Rather than relying on excessive spring stiffness and limited travel, the Spec-S focuses on maximizing usable suspension stroke, maintaining composure over imperfect pavement, and delivering predictable chassis behavior at the limit.

Designed around a 4.5" pinch weld ride height, the Spec-S maintains proper bump travel and suspension geometry where many lowered Miatas begin running into bump stops and losing mechanical grip. The result is a chassis that feels planted, compliant, and connected instead of harsh and skittish.

With carefully selected spring options and digressive damper calibration, the Spec-S is equally at home on rough back roads, canyon drives, autocross courses, and occasional HPDE track days while remaining completely livable for daily driving.

Key Features

  • 120mm front suspension travel to maximize front-end grip, bump absorption, and steering consistency.

  • 110mm rear suspension travel for improved rear stability and predictable weight transfer under acceleration and corner exit.

  • Optimized around a 4.5" pinch weld ride height to preserve usable bump travel and suspension geometry.

  • Fixed-length monotube dampers with independent ride height adjustment to maintain travel regardless of ride height changes.

  • Digressive piston valving for strong chassis support during braking, turn-in, and transitions without excessive harshness.

  • 20-click rebound adjustment to fine-tune the balance between comfort and response.

  • Nickel-plated shock bodies for long-term corrosion resistance and durability.

  • Hand-built and dyno-matched dampers to ensure left-to-right consistency and repeatable performance.

Available Spring Packages

550 Front / 300 Rear – Touring Package

The comfort-focused setup designed for daily driving, rough pavement, and backroad use. This configuration prioritizes compliance and mechanical grip while still significantly improving body control and steering response over OEM suspension.

  • Best for daily driving and rough roads
  • Excellent street comfort
  • Balanced and forgiving handling characteristics
  • Ideal for spirited street driving and long-distance cruising
700 Front / 400 Rear – Sport Package

The recommended all-around setup for most Miata owners. Sharper transient response, reduced body motion, and improved chassis control while maintaining excellent street manners and real-world usability.

  • Ideal dual-purpose street and autocross setup
  • Sharper turn-in and improved rotation
  • Excellent balance between comfort and performance
  • Great for spirited driving and occasional HPDE use
800 Front / 500 Rear – Track Package

The aggressive setup developed for high-grip tires, advanced drivers, and track-focused builds. Increased roll resistance and chassis support for higher cornering loads while still benefiting from usable suspension travel and compliant digressive damping.

  • Designed for track-focused applications
  • Higher response and reduced body movement
  • Improved aero stability and high-speed composure
  • Best suited for aggressive driving and sticky tires

Why Suspension Travel Matters on a Miata

One of the biggest problems with many lowered Miatas is insufficient suspension travel. Once bump travel disappears, the suspension begins repeatedly contacting the bump stops instead of allowing the dampers and springs to control wheel movement properly.

The result is the harsh, skittish ride quality many people incorrectly blame on “stiff springs.”

The Spec-S was engineered specifically to avoid this issue by preserving usable stroke:

  • 120mm front travel
  • 110mm rear travel

This allows the suspension to absorb road imperfections properly while maintaining tire contact and chassis composure under aggressive driving.

The result is a Miata that feels more stable, more predictable, and significantly more confidence inspiring on real roads.

Performance Character

The Spec-S transforms the NA/NB Miata into a more composed, connected, and confidence-inspiring chassis without destroying the lightweight, communicative personality that makes the platform enjoyable in the first place.

Instead of relying on excessive stiffness, the suspension works with the chassis by maximizing grip, improving weight transfer control, and maintaining composure over uneven pavement and mid-corner bumps.

The result is a Miata that feels sharper and more planted while remaining genuinely enjoyable to drive every day.
