Built for balance, response, and confidence at the limit.
Calibrated around the E46’s balanced rear-wheel-drive chassis, the Spec-RS delivers firm, communicative damping with the heat capacity and control needed for repeated track sessions, autocross, and aggressive back-road driving.
Dežru Spec-RS Coilovers – BMW 3-Series (E46)
The Dežru Spec-RS coilover system brings modern, track-focused damping performance to one of BMW’s most celebrated rear-wheel-drive chassis. Designed around the E46’s MacPherson-strut front and multi-link rear suspension architecture, the Spec-RS provides the control, response, and consistency needed to extract more performance from the chassis without sacrificing the balance that makes the E46 so rewarding to drive.
Developed on a shaker rig for serious enthusiasts and weekend track drivers, the Spec-RS features digressive piston valving that delivers exceptional chassis support under load while maintaining compliance over uneven pavement. Combined with external rear reservoirs, this system provides improved thermal capacity and fade resistance during extended lapping, autocross, or aggressive back-road sessions.
With fixed-length damper bodies and a 25–50 mm adjustable lowered ride height, the Spec-RS provides a purposeful stance while retaining the damper control and usable suspension travel required for serious performance driving.

Hand-built, dyno-matched pairs to ensure precise left-right damping uniformity.
Performance Character
The Spec-RS builds on the E46’s naturally balanced chassis with substantially improved control under braking, turn-in, transitions, and sustained cornering loads. Digressive valving provides strong low-speed damping to control body movement and sharpen response while allowing the suspension to remain composed over higher-speed bumps and surface imperfections.
Expect a flatter, more responsive chassis with improved steering precision, stronger mid-corner support, and the confidence to put power down cleanly on corner exit. The result is an E46 that feels connected and predictable when driven hard without losing the progressive balance that defines the platform.
Why We Recommend 400 lb/in Front & 650 lb/in Rear for the BMW E46
The BMW E46 uses very different spring mounting arrangements at the front and rear. The front spring acts directly through the strut, while the rear spring is mounted separately on the rear suspension arm and acts through a significant motion ratio. Because of this geometry, the listed rear spring rate does not translate directly to the same wheel rate as a 650 lb/in spring mounted directly at the wheel.
Our 400 lb/in front / 650 lb/in rear combination is selected around those differing motion ratios to produce a balanced wheel-rate relationship rather than simply matching the numerical spring rates front to rear.
The 400 lb/in front spring provides substantially increased support during braking and corner entry without making the front axle unnecessarily stiff. This reduces dive, improves steering response, and helps maintain consistent tire loading as the chassis transitions into a corner.
At the rear, the 650 lb/in spring compensates for the E46’s inboard spring location and resulting motion ratio. The higher nominal spring rate provides the wheel control needed to balance the front suspension while improving rear support during acceleration, transitions, and sustained cornering loads.
The result is a setup that:
- Improves front-end precision and steering response
- Reduces brake dive and excess chassis movement
- Provides balanced front-to-rear wheel control
- Improves rear support without creating an excessively harsh rear wheel rate
- Increases stability and confidence during aggressive driving
This pairing is designed specifically to work with the Spec-RS’s more aggressive digressive valving, delivering strong low-speed damping for immediate chassis response while maintaining the high-speed compliance and thermal consistency needed for track environments.
Compared with softer street-focused setups, this configuration prioritizes stability, precision, and driver feedback, making it ideal for track days, autocross, aggressive road driving, and enthusiast-built E46s running modern high-performance tires.
Overall, the 400 front / 650 rear combination gives the E46 a planted, responsive, and confidence-inspiring character while working with the chassis’s natural balance rather than against it.
