Dežru Spec-RS Coilovers – 97-01 Honda CR-V RD1

The Dežru Spec-RS coilover system is engineered specifically for the 1997-2001 Honda CR-V RD1. While the first-generation CR-V was designed as a compact utility vehicle, it shares much of its fundamental Honda double-wishbone suspension DNA with the Civic and Integra platforms, giving it far more performance potential than most people expect.

The RD1’s taller ride height, increased weight, and higher center of gravity create unique challenges when driven aggressively. The Spec-RS addresses those challenges with modern race-bred damping technology, increased chassis support, and spring rates carefully selected for performance-oriented CR-V builds.

Developed on a shaker rig for serious enthusiasts and weekend track drivers, the Spec-RS features digressive piston valving that delivers exceptional chassis support under load while maintaining compliance over uneven pavement. Combined with external rear reservoirs, this system provides improved thermal consistency and fade resistance during extended lapping, autocross competition, and aggressive canyon use.

With fixed-length damper bodies and a 30–45 mm adjustable lowered ride height, the Spec-RS dramatically improves handling precision while preserving suspension stroke, maintaining predictable behavior, and keeping the CR-V composed through braking, turn-in, mid-corner load, and corner exit.

Key Features

  • Digressive monotube dampers for superior control, consistent damping, and precise driver feedback tuned specifically for the RD1 CR-V chassis.
  • External rear reservoirs for improved heat dissipation and fade-resistant performance during continuous high-load use.
  • Fixed-length damper bodies with 30–45 mm adjustable lowered ride height for improved geometry and bump travel retention.
  • Adjustable damping to fine-tune rebound for street, canyon, autocross, or track conditions.
  • 500 lb/in front & 450 lb/in rear spring rates — optimized for aggressive street driving, canyon roads, autocross, and track-focused CR-V builds.
  • Linear HyperCoil springs ensure predictable response and smooth load transition through every phase of the corner.
  • Pillowball front top mounts for sharper steering feedback and improved alignment consistency.
  • Hand-built, dyno-matched pairs to ensure precise left-right damping uniformity.

Performance Character

The Spec-RS transforms the RD1 CR-V from a practical compact SUV into a surprisingly capable performance machine. Body roll is significantly reduced, steering response becomes more immediate, and weight transfer is better controlled during braking, acceleration, and cornering.

The digressive valving curve provides the platform support necessary to manage the CR-V’s higher center of gravity while maintaining enough compliance to keep the tires working effectively on imperfect pavement. The result is a vehicle that feels planted, predictable, and remarkably composed for a compact SUV.

Under braking, the front end stays better supported. During turn-in, the chassis responds with far more confidence. Through mid-corner load, the suspension keeps the vehicle flatter and more composed. On corner exit, the rear remains stable while still allowing the chassis to feel responsive and connected.

Whether attacking a mountain road, participating in autocross, or building a unique track-focused project, the Spec-RS allows the RD1 chassis to perform at a level few would expect.

Why We Recommend 500 lb/in Front & 450 lb/in Rear for the 1997-2001 Honda CR-V RD1

The first-generation Honda CR-V shares much of its suspension architecture with Honda’s compact-car platforms, but its taller ride height, increased weight, and higher center of gravity require a different spring strategy to achieve predictable handling performance.

Our 500 / 450 spring rate setup was selected specifically for Spec-RS, where the goal is to improve chassis control, reduce body roll, and provide the responsiveness expected from a modern performance suspension while maintaining real-world compliance.

The 500 lb/in front spring provides the support necessary to manage braking forces and front-end load transfer. This significantly reduces dive, improves steering precision, and helps the front tires maintain more consistent loading during aggressive driving.

In the rear, the 450 lb/in spring complements the front rate by reducing rear roll while preserving traction and stability. This rear rate gives the CR-V a more responsive character without making the chassis unpredictable or overly reactive.

The result is a setup that:

  • Significantly reduces body roll and brake dive
  • Improves steering precision and front-end response
  • Creates a more balanced and confidence-inspiring chassis
  • Improves transition speed during rapid direction changes
  • Allows the CR-V to take full advantage of modern performance tires

This pairing is designed to work with our Spec-RS valving, which provides strong low-speed damping for immediate chassis response and increased high-speed control for aggressive driving conditions. Together, the spring and damper package delivers a highly connected, predictable, and confidence-inspiring driving experience.

Compared to softer, street-focused setups, this configuration prioritizes control, feedback, and consistency, making it ideal for drivers who want to turn the RD1 CR-V into something far sharper and more capable than factory.

Overall, 500 front / 450 rear gives the CR-V a flatter, sharper, and significantly more performance-focused character while preserving enough compliance to keep the vehicle usable on real-world roads.
