Dežru Spec-S Coilovers – Porsche 997 Turbo

The Dežru Spec-S coilover system is engineered specifically for the Porsche 997 Carrera, a rear-engine sports car that demands careful balance between chassis support, rear traction, and ride compliance. Designed around the 997’s suspension geometry, rear weight bias, and dual-purpose street performance intent, the Spec-S delivers a substantial improvement in stability, confidence, and overall composure without sacrificing daily usability.

Developed for drivers who daily their 997 but still enjoy spirited street driving, mountain roads, and occasional HPDE track days, the Spec-S features digressive piston valving that provides strong low-speed support during braking, turn-in, and transitional maneuvers, while remaining compliant over rough pavement and surface irregularities. Rather than chasing excessive stiffness, this setup targets a balanced ride frequency in the ~1.9–2.2 Hz range, improving control and feedback while preserving ride quality expected from a road-driven Porsche.

Fixed-length damper bodies paired with a 25–30 mm adjustable lowered ride height ensure proper suspension stroke and geometry are maintained. This preserves usable bump travel and predictable roll behavior, allowing the 997 to remain stable and confidence-inspiring under both daily driving and aggressive use.

Key Features

  • Digressive monotube dampers for controlled body motion, consistent damping performance, and clear steering feedback.

  • Fixed-length damper bodies with 25–30 mm adjustable lowered ride height to preserve suspension geometry and usable travel.

  • Adjustable damping to fine-tune rebound for daily driving, back-road use, or HPDE track events.

  • 300 lb/in front and 500 lb/in rear spring rates, selected to stabilize the rear-engine layout while maintaining front grip and steering precision.

  • Linear HyperCoil springs for predictable load transfer and smooth, consistent response throughout suspension travel.

  • OEM-style upper mounts to reduce NVH while maintaining proper fitment and alignment consistency.

  • Hand-built, dyno-matched pairs to ensure precise left-to-right damping consistency.

Performance Character

The Spec-S transforms the Porsche 997 by reducing excess body motion and improving stability without dulling the car’s natural balance and steering feel. The digressive damping profile delivers immediate support during initial inputs while maintaining controlled compliance that keeps the tires planted as grip levels rise.

The result is a Porsche 997 that feels composed, predictable, and confidence-inspiring, remaining comfortable for daily driving while delivering the control and feedback needed for aggressive street and track use.

For the 997 Turbo, a 300 lb/in front and 500 lb/in rear spring rate is a very intentional setup built around maintaining proper chassis balance, ride frequency, and rear-engine weight bias.

The 997 platform carries a significant amount of weight over the rear axle, which means the rear spring must do the majority of the work in supporting the vehicle and controlling pitch under acceleration. The 500 lb/in rear spring is not about making the car harsh, it’s about maintaining proper rear support, keeping the geometry stable, and preventing excessive squat. Without sufficient rear rate, the car will feel vague and unsettled, especially when loading the rear tires on throttle.

Up front, the 300 lb/in spring is selected to complement the rear without overpowering the chassis. The front of a 997 is relatively light, so running too much spring rate will quickly degrade compliance and reduce mechanical grip. At 250 lb/in, the front maintains good support under braking while still allowing the suspension to work over imperfect surfaces, which is critical for both street driving and real-world performance.

This pairing is designed around ride frequency matching, not just arbitrary stiffness. The goal is to keep the front and rear operating in a balanced frequency range so the car feels composed and predictable, rather than pitching or oscillating between axles. The result is a setup that feels planted, confidence-inspiring, and controlled without being overly stiff.

It’s also important to note that the overall feel of the suspension is not dictated by the springs alone. The damping plays a major role, and in this case the shocks are specifically tuned to match the 300/500 rates. Running a mismatched damper, for example a shock designed for a much softer spring, would lead to poor control, excessive oscillation, and reduced performance.

Overall, the 300/500 combination provides a strong balance of support, compliance, and chassis control, making it well-suited for a 997 that sees spirited street driving, uneven roads, and occasional aggressive use without compromising drivability.
