Balanced road comfort with sharper, more modern chassis control.
Designed to lower your Testarossa by approximately 25–30 mm while preserving the compliant character of the original suspension, the Spec-S adds sharper response and improved body control without making the car harsh.
Dežru Spec-S Coilovers – 1984–1996 Ferrari Testarossa (F110)
Modern control engineered around one of Ferrari’s most distinctive suspension designs.
The Dežru Suspension Spec-S system brings modern monotube damper technology to the Ferrari Testarossa while preserving the character that makes the car unique. Rather than attempting to turn the Testarossa into an excessively stiff modern sports car, Spec-S is engineered to retain its road-going compliance while adding the body control, response, and confidence expected from a modern performance suspension.
The Testarossa also presents a unique engineering challenge: unlike a conventional four-shock suspension system, the Ferrari uses six spring and damper assemblies. There is one coilover at each front wheel, while the rear suspension uses two separate spring and damper assemblies per side.
This twin-rear-shock arrangement was designed around the considerable mass carried by the rear of the Testarossa. Its longitudinal flat-12 engine and transaxle place substantial weight over the rear axle. By dividing the rear spring and damping load between two assemblies at each wheel, Ferrari was able to provide the spring capacity and damper control necessary to manage that mass without relying on a single extremely stiff spring and heavily loaded damper.
Dežru retains this distinctive 2-front / 4-rear configuration rather than attempting to redesign the suspension around a conventional four-shock layout. Each Spec-S system uses digressive monotube dampers, precision CNC-machined hardware, and spring rates selected specifically around the Testarossa’s suspension geometry, rear weight bias, and unique twin-spring arrangement.
Key Features
-
Six-damper configuration retains the Testarossa’s original one-front / two-rear damper arrangement at each side of the vehicle.
-
Adjustable damping allows the suspension response to be fine-tuned for comfortable road use or a firmer, more responsive sporting setup.
-
Monotube digressive valving provides strong chassis control during braking, turn-in, and transitions while retaining compliance over broken or uneven pavement.
-
Linear HyperCoil springs provide predictable load transfer and consistent response throughout suspension travel.
-
Vehicle-specific spring rates are selected around the Testarossa’s rear-biased weight distribution and unusual four-spring rear suspension rather than adapting a generic Ferrari spring package.
-
Hand-built and dyno-tested to provide consistent damping characteristics across all six dampers.
Spec-S Spring Rates
-
Front: 300 lb/in – selected to retain front-end compliance while adding support under braking, reducing unnecessary body movement, and sharpening steering response.
-
Rear: 225 lb/in per spring – four rear springs total, with two springs working together at each rear wheel.
Because the Testarossa uses two rear springs per side, the rear rates cannot be compared directly with the single rear spring rate used by a conventional coilover system. The paired 225 lb/in springs provide approximately 450 lb/in of combined nominal spring rate per rear corner before suspension motion ratio is considered.
This allows the Spec-S to provide the rear support necessary for the Testarossa’s flat-12 drivetrain without resorting to excessively stiff individual springs. The result is a suspension that remains compliant over real-world roads while feeling noticeably tighter and more controlled when the pace increases.
Performance Character
The goal of the Testarossa Spec-S is not to eliminate everything that makes the original suspension comfortable. Instead, it adds a carefully measured sporting edge to the factory character.
Expect improved turn-in, reduced brake dive, better control of the substantial rear mass during transitions, and a more settled chassis through long corners. Digressive damping provides the additional control needed during aggressive inputs while allowing the relatively moderate spring rates to maintain ride quality over expansion joints, uneven pavement, and imperfect back roads.
The result is an OEM-like ride with noticeably improved sporting response: controlled without being stiff, responsive without becoming nervous, and comfortable enough to preserve the grand-touring character that belongs in a Testarossa.
Why Choose Dežru Spec-S
The Testarossa does not need to ride like a modern track car to feel dramatically better. By retaining Ferrari’s unique six-damper architecture and pairing moderate spring rates with modern digressive damping, the Dežru Spec-S improves control where the original chassis benefits from it most while preserving the compliance and analog character that define the car.
