Built for precision, high-speed control, and confidence at the limit.
Calibrated specifically around the NA3 NSX’s mid-engine architecture, rear-biased weight distribution, high chassis rigidity, and substantial performance envelope, the Spec-RS delivers the support and damping control required for aggressive road driving and repeated track use without sacrificing the compliance needed to keep the tires working.
Dežru Spec-RS Coilovers – 2017–2022 Acura NSX (NA3)
The Dežru Spec-RS coilover system brings motorsport-derived damping control to the second-generation Acura NSX. With its mid-engine layout, hybrid SH-AWD system, extremely rigid chassis, and rear-biased mass distribution, the NA3 requires a suspension package developed around the unique demands of the platform rather than conventional front-engine sports-car spring and damping ratios.
Developed for serious enthusiasts and weekend track drivers, the Spec-RS uses digressive piston valving to generate strong low-speed damping force for immediate chassis control while allowing greater compliance as shaft velocity increases. The result is improved support during braking, turn-in, acceleration, and rapid transitions without unnecessarily sacrificing mechanical grip over bumps and surface irregularities.
The Spec-RS is designed to maintain usable damper travel at its intended lowered ride height, giving the NSX a more aggressive stance while preserving the stroke and suspension movement required for a high-performance road and track car.
Key Features
-
Digressive monotube dampers provide immediate chassis support, consistent damping, and precise driver feedback calibrated specifically for the NA3 NSX.
-
Track-focused damping calibration provides the thermal consistency and control required for repeated high-load use.
-
Adjustable damping allows rebound characteristics to be fine-tuned for road, canyon, or track conditions.
-
500 lb/in front & 650 lb/in rear spring rates provide a balanced fast-road and HPDE configuration developed around the NSX’s rear-biased mass distribution and high-performance chassis.
-
Linear HyperCoil springs provide predictable response and consistent load transfer through braking, cornering, and acceleration.
-
Hand-built and dyno-matched pairs ensure precise left-to-right damping consistency.
-
OEM top mounts are retained. The factory upper mounts must be transferred from the original suspension assemblies to the Dežru coilovers during installation.
-
OEM front lower forks are retained. The original front lower shock forks must be transferred from the factory dampers to the new Dežru assemblies.
-
EDC bypass required. Installation of the Spec-RS removes the factory electronically controlled damper function. The factory EDC system must be properly bypassed to prevent suspension-related warnings or faults.
Performance Character
The Spec-RS sharpens the NSX’s already exceptional chassis response while providing substantially greater support during braking, rapid transitions, and sustained high-load cornering. Digressive valving generates strong control at lower damper velocities, where body motion occurs, while allowing the suspension to remain responsive to faster wheel movements caused by pavement joints, bumps, and surface irregularities.
The result is a flatter and more connected chassis with reduced pitch and roll, more immediate response to steering input, and improved platform stability at speed. Rather than simply making the NSX stiff, the Spec-RS is designed to control the mass of the vehicle while preserving the mechanical grip needed to exploit its sophisticated SH-AWD system.
Why We Recommend 500 lb/in Front & 650 lb/in Rear for the 2017–2022 Acura NSX
The NA3 NSX presents a very different suspension challenge from a conventional front-engine performance car. Its aluminum-intensive chassis, mid-mounted twin-turbocharged V6, hybrid drivetrain, rear drive unit, and electric front axle create a vehicle weighing roughly 3,900 pounds with a significant rearward weight bias.
For the Spec-RS, our recommended 500 lb/in front and 650 lb/in rear spring combination was selected to support that mass distribution while preserving the compliance and mechanical grip required from a high-performance AWD platform.
At the front, the 500 lb/in springs provide the support necessary to control brake dive, steering response, and rapid load transfer without making the front axle unnecessarily rigid. This is especially important on the NSX because the front tires are responsible not only for steering and braking forces, but also for transmitting torque from the vehicle’s front electric motors.
At the rear, the 650 lb/in rate reflects the substantially greater static and dynamic loading carried by the rear axle. The higher rear rate supports the mass of the engine, transmission, hybrid components, and rear structure while controlling squat under the NSX’s considerable acceleration capability.
The front-to-rear rate split is intentional. Simply using similar spring rates at both ends would not account for the NSX’s mass distribution or the dramatically different loads experienced by each axle. Conversely, excessively stiff rates can reduce compliance and mechanical grip, particularly on imperfect pavement. The 500/650 combination provides the support required for aggressive driving while allowing the dampers and tires to continue doing their jobs.
This setup is designed to:
- Reduce brake dive, acceleration squat, and body roll
- Improve steering precision and transient response
- Support the NSX’s rear-biased mass distribution
- Maintain mechanical grip over uneven pavement
- Provide greater chassis stability during high-speed cornering
- Complement the NSX’s SH-AWD and hybrid torque-vectoring systems rather than overpowering them with excessive spring rate
The spring package is paired with Spec-RS digressive valving, allowing the dampers to provide strong low-speed chassis control while maintaining more compliance at higher shaft velocities. This gives the NSX the connected and immediate response expected from a track-oriented suspension without turning the car into an unnecessarily harsh street car.
Overall, the 500 front / 650 rear configuration gives the NA3 NSX a sharper, more controlled, and more track-capable character while respecting the balance, traction, and sophisticated drivetrain integration that make the second-generation NSX unique.
Installation Notes
OEM component transfer is required. The factory upper mounts and front lower shock forks are reused and must be transferred from the original suspension assemblies during installation.
Electronic damper control: The Spec-RS replaces the factory electronically controlled dampers with conventional performance dampers. The factory EDC system must therefore be bypassed using an appropriate cancellation solution to prevent suspension warning messages or fault codes. Factory electronic damping adjustment will no longer function after conversion.
