Dežru Spec-R • Track Focused 02–07 Subaru Impreza Coilover System

3-way control for the naturally aspirated GD/GG chassis.

The Spec-R lowers the Impreza by approximately 25–50 mm while delivering true 3-way damper adjustment through fully inverted dampers and external reservoirs, giving serious drivers precise control over ride quality, grip, and chassis response.

Dežru Spec-R Coilovers – Subaru Impreza (2002–2007 Non-WRX/STI)

Professional-level damping for the everyday Impreza platform.

The Dežru Spec-R is engineered specifically for the naturally aspirated 2002–2007 Subaru Impreza, delivering the highest level of adjustability, precision, and suspension control available in the Dežru lineup. Built around the lighter GD/GG chassis, the Spec-R combines fully inverted monotube dampers, external reservoirs, and true 3-way damping control to create a suspension system capable of serious performance driving without being unnecessarily harsh.

Unlike generic Subaru coilovers often designed around WRX or STI weight and power levels, this Spec-R system is tuned specifically for naturally aspirated Impreza models. The lighter front-end weight and lower drivetrain load allow the suspension to use spring rates that are aggressive enough for track use while still preserving the balance, grip, and compliance that make the Impreza enjoyable on real roads.

The Spec-R features independent rebound, low-speed compression, and high-speed compression adjustment. Low-speed compression controls body movement during braking, turn-in, acceleration, and transitions. High-speed compression manages impacts from rough pavement, curbing, potholes, and surface changes. Rebound fine tunes weight transfer, tire contact, and overall chassis balance.

Key Features

  • Fully inverted monotube dampers front and rear for maximum rigidity, reduced suspension flex, and improved steering precision.
  • External reservoirs with true 3-way adjustment featuring independent rebound, low-speed compression, and high-speed compression control.
  • Digressive piston technology for strong platform support, predictable feedback, and excellent tire control.
  • 375 lb/in front and 375 lb/in rear HyperCo springs, selected specifically for the naturally aspirated GD/GG Impreza chassis.
  • Fixed-length damper bodies with 25–50 mm adjustable lowered ride height to preserve suspension geometry and usable travel.
  • CNC-machined aluminum mounts and hardware for precise fitment, reduced weight, and long-term durability.
  • Hand-built and shock dyno verified to ensure matched damping characteristics across all four dampers.

Performance Character

The Spec-R gives the naturally aspirated Impreza a level of chassis control normally reserved for dedicated track builds. Steering response becomes sharper, body motion is more controlled, and the car feels significantly more planted through fast transitions, heavy braking zones, and aggressive corner entry.

The fully inverted damper layout increases rigidity at all four corners, helping the suspension stay precise under load. External reservoirs increase fluid volume and thermal stability, allowing the dampers to maintain consistent performance during extended spirited driving, autocross, or track sessions.

Because compression adjustment is split into high-speed and low-speed circuits, the Spec-R allows the driver to tune comfort and performance separately. You can add low-speed compression for sharper response and flatter cornering without making the car overly harsh over sharp bumps. You can also soften high-speed compression to help the tires stay planted over rough pavement, curbing, or broken road surfaces.

The result is an Impreza that feels more immediate, more adjustable, and more capable while still retaining the predictable AWD balance that makes the chassis so enjoyable.

Why We Recommend 375 lb/in Front & 375 lb/in Rear

The naturally aspirated 2002–2007 Subaru Impreza is lighter and less demanding than the WRX or STI, so it does not need excessive spring rate to feel precise. Instead, the Spec-R uses advanced damping control to manage body motion while allowing the tires to stay compliant over imperfect surfaces.

Our 375 lb/in front and 375 lb/in rear spring package gives the chassis the support needed for aggressive driving while leaving room for the 3-way dampers to do their job. This keeps the car responsive without making it feel unnecessarily stiff or nervous.

This setup:

  • Reduces body roll, brake dive, and acceleration squat.
  • Sharpens steering response and turn-in.
  • Improves stability during fast transitions.
  • Maintains grip over rough pavement and curbing.
  • Provides meaningful adjustment range for street, autocross, and track use.

Combined with fully inverted dampers, external reservoirs, and true 3-way adjustment, the Spec-R gives the 2002–2007 Impreza a serious performance suspension package while remaining properly matched to the naturally aspirated chassis.
